Solar Panels Wexford

One request, one installer

Solar Panels Wexford passes solar panel requests from Wexford homes to one local SEAI-registered installer who covers your area. You tell us about the house, they ring you, usually look at the roof, and give you a price.

We've worked out what panels make in 9 Wexford towns from the EU's satellite record. The south-east coast comes out on top and Bunclody lowest, so a 10-panel system in Wexford town makes roughly 600 kWh a year more than one in Bunclody.

Installers set their own prices, so this site shows what an Irish installer publishes, with the SEAI grant taken off. Use it to check a quote.

Before you sign: get SEAI's grant offer before any work starts, or you lose the grant.

Town by town

The coast beats the inland towns

Same panels, same south roof, different town. Wexford town, Rosslare and Kilmore Quay on the south-east coast come out on top and Bunclody, inland, lowest, a gap of about 12%. East and west roofs make about a fifth less than south, but panels on both sides of a roof still pay their way. A flat roof with panels tilted at 10° gets about 90% of a south roof.

Local points to raise with the installer

Salt air on the coast

In Rosslare, Kilmore Quay, Courtown and anywhere near the sea, ask for panels tested for salt mist under IEC 61701, and check what the fixings and frame are made of.

Wind off the sea

Met Éireann's Johnstown Castle station, south-west of Wexford town, recorded a top gust of 63 knots in its 2009–2025 monthly records (Met Éireann, Johnstown Castle 2 monthly records). Ask how the mounting is fixed and what wind load it's rated for.

The grant

Get the SEAI offer before any work starts

SEAI pays €700 per kWp for the first 2kWp of panels and €200 for each extra kWp up to 4kWp, so €1,800 at most for the panels. A battery of 5kWh or more adds a flat €600, so the most a home gets is €2,400 (SEAI Solar PV Scheme Application Guide, v6.0, 12 Oct 2026 (read 3 Nov 2026)). How to apply, step by step.

  • Up to €1,800 for the panels

Selling your spare power

What suppliers pay for exported power

Every supplier has to pay you for power you send to the grid. On standard plans that's 15.89c to 19.5c per kWh (WattCharger, Aug 2026), and up to €400 a year of it is tax-free (Irish Times, 15 Oct 2026). The difference between the top and bottom rate is about €54 a year on 1,500 kWh of exports, so it's worth checking.

FAQ

Questions Wexford homeowners ask

How much do solar panels cost in Wexford?

Purevolt, an Irish installer, publishes quotes of €7,600 for 8 panels to €9,200 for 16, before the grant. Take off the SEAI grant (€1,776 to €1,800) and a Wexford home pays about €5,824 to €7,400, with 0% VAT. The Irish Times puts an average home at €6,000 to €9,000 after the grant (Irish Times, 15 Oct 2026).

Does Wexford really get more sun?

Yes, on Met Éireann's own figures. The extreme south-east gets the most sunshine in Ireland, over 7 hours a day in early summer and almost 2 in December, and Rosslare averages 1.9 hours a day in winter and 6.1 in summer (Met Éireann, Sunshine and Solar Radiation). On PVGIS a south roof in Wexford town makes about 1,056 kWh a year per kWp, about 21% more than the same roof in Tralee (EU PVGIS 5.2).

Which part of Wexford gets the most from solar?

The south-east coast, on PVGIS's figures. A south roof in Wexford town makes about 1,056 kWh a year per kWp, Rosslare 1,048 and Kilmore Quay 1,045. Bunclody is lowest of the towns we checked at 933, about 12% less than Wexford town (EU PVGIS 5.2).

How much is the SEAI grant?

SEAI pays €700 per kWp for the first 2kWp of panels and €200 for each extra kWp up to 4kWp, so €1,800 at most for the panels. A battery of 5kWh or more adds a flat €600, so the most a home gets is €2,400 (SEAI Solar PV Scheme Application Guide, v6.0, 12 Oct 2026 (read 3 Nov 2026)).

Does the Wexford town safeguarding zone stop me putting panels on my house?

No. The Dept of Housing's data has one Solar Safeguarding Zone in the county, a 3 km circle in Wexford town (Solar Safeguarding Zone data, Dept of Housing). Inside it, panels on buildings other than houses are limited to 300 square metres per roof without planning permission. Houses have no size limit, inside a zone or not (Pager Power, quoting the Oireachtas housing committee).

Do I need planning permission?

Usually not for panels on a house roof: there's no limit on area anywhere in the country, subject to conditions (gov.ie, 7 Oct 2022). The catch is protected structures and Architectural Conservation Areas, where the panels mustn't materially affect the character of the building or the area. Wexford County Council has 20 of those areas, in Wexford town, Enniscorthy, New Ross, Gorey and Bunclody (Wexford County Development Plan 2022–2028, Volume 6: Architectural Conservation Areas).

How long do panels take to pay back?

Usually five to eight years (Irish Times, 15 Oct 2026). It depends on how much of the power you use yourself: that saves your full unit rate, 36c to 45c per kWh on standard tariffs, while exported power earns 18.5c to 19.5c (WattCharger, Aug 2026). The price guide works it out for each Wexford town.

Are you a solar company?

No. Solar Panels Wexford is a price guide and introduction service run by Bartlomiej Standa. You tell us about your home and we pass it to one local SEAI-registered installer. They give you the price and do the work, and you deal with them directly.
